His 2 CD album for the year 2008 contains many Calypsos with political commentary, like the eponymous “Barack De Magnificent” - a song about the nominee of the republican party for the presidential election 2008 in the USA. Furthermore Mighty Sparrow sings about Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, racism, education, war, etc. However, don’t think this 2 disc set is only teaching, no: Mighty Sparrow is an entertainer in the first place and his music always catches the listener with wonderful melodies, witty and clever lyrics and danceable rythms.

Die schnellen harten Klänge der Soca-Musik sind seit den 70er Jahren der Soundtrack des karibischen Karnevals. Außerhalb der närrischen Zeit verschwindet Soca meist zusammen mit den bunten Kostümen im Schrank. Trotzdem schaffte es diese Musik bis nach Deutschland. Drei Berliner gründeten einen Online-Shop für CDs und Platten aus der Karibik. Sie nannten ihn „Faluma“ nach einem populären Soca-Hit aus Barbados. Anfang des letzten Jahres stellten Martin Stahl und seine Kollegen dann zum ersten Mal einen Titel zum legalen Download ins Internet. Mittlerweile beliefert „Faluma“ die Großen der Online-Branche wie iTunes, Musicload oder Napster mit den Klängen des karibischen Karnevals.

A beautiful documentary about the Dragon Keylemanjahro School of Arts & Culture, the Moko Jumbie school of Dragon Glen de Souza. Unless it’s more than just a school of stilt art!! Without any formal funding he takes up to 100 children off the streets. Children whose neighbours last names are murder, drug & crime, in some cases even their own fathers… Dragon teaches and motivates the kids in team working skills, discipline, stamina, and bearing consequences (positive and negative). Dragon is a true social worker, and if there’s one thing to financially support in T&T - it is this school!!!
